Obituary of Mary Zerefos-Kontos

Maria (Mary) Zerefos-Kontos, 84, of Port Richey passed away Wednesday, December 22nd., 2021, surrounded by her three daughters. Mary was born March 8th 1937 in Warren, Ohio. She is the Daughter of the late Markos Zerefos and Maria Moshou Zerefos. Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kosta ''Gus" N. Kontos and brothers, George, Steve and Nick Zerefos of Ohio. Mary graduated from Warren G Harding High School in Ohio and, after getting married, moved south with her husband. There they owned and operated a construction company for many years before she retired to Florida. Mary was a kind and generous person who loved spending time with family, friends and her adopted rescue dog Maggie. Those who knew her best knew her passion for volunteering at the Life Treasures Hospice Thrift Store in New Port Richey for the past 10+ years. Mary's strentgh carried her through the Great Depression and WW2 as a child and three bouts of cancer as an adult. She will forever be a source of inspiration to and dearly loved and missed by those she left behind. Cherished memories of Mary will live on with her daughters, Stacey Kontos (of Port Richey), Elaine Kontos and Nikki Kontos, both of Florida. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mary's wishes, cremation is taking place and there will be no funeral services or calling hours. The family will host a celebration of her life at a later date.
